Health Careers (1 credit)

Open to grades 11 and 12

This course is designed for students who are considering a medical or health career (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, laboratory technician, radiologic technology, veterinarian and others). Classroom
instruction includes medical terminology, anatomy and related disorders, professional standards, monitoring bodily functions, disease prevention, introduction to health careers, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first
aid. Students are given the opportunity to participate in field trips and a job shadow experience tailored to the individual student's interests. This course is beneficial in allowing students to make informed choices concerning future
plans.

Note regarding Health Careers classes over ITV:
In the past we have brought ITV students to Minot 3-4 times
per year depending on schedules and student interest. Minot's Trinity Hospital
has allowed ITV students to spend an eight-hour day for a job shadow experience
but this is a priviledge not a right of taking Health Careers as each student
must agree to abide by certain professional standards before they can
participate in this activity. I do schedule anywhere from 2-3 tours of various
healthcare facilities but am open to scheduling these in area clinics and
hospitals outside of Minot if the central location is better depending on
participating schools.
