Art I, II, and III/IV

- Wilton High School ITV Classroom 2 -

Grade Placement: 10,11,12

The purpose of the course Art I is to offer students comprehensive art experiences with detailed explorations in areas such as drawing, painting, design, and sculpture. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency working with a variety of mediums, students will learn about the history, analysis, and interpretation of art. The official name for the Art I course is Art.

 

Art II is offered to give students the opportunity to continue developing the skills they have learned in previous courses. The curriculum follows the same basic format as the Art I. Students will review some of the basic concepts they learned in Art I before they learn the advanced terminology and concepts. The official name for the Art II course is Fundamentals of Art.

 

Art III and IV courses are offered to further develop original thinking and independent skills. Art III/IV students should have a clear understanding of the elements and principles of art. Their project grades will be determined by the choices they’ve made in producing successful designs, based on their implementation of the understood elements and principles of art. Art III follows a similar format to Art I and II, while Art IV is more independent. Art IV students work with the teacher to create a more individualized curriculum. The official name for the Art III course is Color and Design, and the official name for Art IV is Commercial Art.
